Get him to the greek movie review
Article by The Movie Reviewer
Sex, drugs and rock n’ roll is a theme that had been used a lot in the movies or should I say overused but I had yet to see one that surely rocks. Well, until I saw Get Him to the Greek. The movie takes the theme of rock n’ roll in a not so serious fashion and yes the movie rocks and more than that it leaves you laughing so hard from start to finish as I can say that his movie is really funny and entertaining.
From the opening scenes, you can clearly conclude where the movie is going to, at least the plot. A multimillion-hit rocker Aldus Snow(Russell Brand) is being shown in the opening scenes of the film as already on the verge of going down the drains. His last single had been a flop, an insult and a failure and then the whole house came down in a rockstar fashion, wife left him etc. Then came Aaron Green(Jonah Hill), an intern in a recording label who proposed to his boss, Sergio Roma(Sean Combs) to get his idol Aldus Snow to play in the Greek Theater in Los Angeles for a tenth anniversary performance. We know what happens next as it is really not difficult to guess. Aaron was ordered to fetch Aldus from London and “get him to the Greek” where the events did not turn quite alright and the comedy and laughing mayhem ensued.
The three main cast in this film, Brand, Jonah Hill and Diddy Combs are downright funny in their roles and in their particular performances. I was taken aback with the performance of Diddy since as far as I can remember this must be his first comedy film, he delivered a stellar comic performance as Sergio though I cannot say that it was really an excellent act but at least not bad for a first time. For Russell Brand, I can say that he is awesome. This is only the second film that I saw with him on it but I can safely say that he is consistent in his comic roles. The same can be said of Jonah Hill as he plays the serious-bent-on-getting-the-job-done assistant who succumb to the antics of his ward, he performed exceedingly good and funny. The supporting cast cannot be faulted as well for they had contributed to the success of the movie as a whole.
Get him to the Greek is an excellent rock n’ roll film. Despite all the comedy and hilarious moments, it also packs a bite. It portrays the life of the rich and famous who had gone south and of people who let fame got the better of them. Amongst all the film talks about redemption of self, of having a second chance albeit not in the usual serious fashion.
You will be laughing your heart out in this movie while being transfixed to the development of Aldus Snow’s character as he metamorphosed from a severely self-destructive person to a triumphant artist.
So if you are in for a serious laugh trip then this movie is highly recommended for you. And for those who had been stifling their laughter due to the mundane things of everyday life, take a breather and watch this movie, surely it will brighten up your day.
